10 Killed as Rival Bandit Gangs Clash at Naming Ceremony in Katsina

A naming ceremony in Katsina turned deadly after rival bandit groups clashed, leaving ten people dead.

Eyewitnesses said the confrontation erupted from an ongoing feud over control of territory.

At least 10 people have been killed following a violent clash between two rival bandit groups during a naming ceremony in Katsina State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the incident in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, noting that the confrontation happened on Monday evening at Gidan Mai Aure, a settlement near Sayaya village in Matazu Local Government Area.

Makama said the clash was between Saimaila’s group from Salihawa village and Muhammadu’s group from Maharba village.

Eyewitnesses reported that both groups had been engaged in a long-standing rivalry over territorial control, which boiled over during the event.

“The conflict erupted when Muhammadu and his men invaded the naming ceremony, leading to a gun battle. By the time it ended, Saimaila and nine of his followers were dead,” Makama wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, state authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
