EFCC Detains Hajj Commission Officials for Alleged Fraud
EFCC has detained two senior NAHCON officials over alleged fraud tied to 2025 Hajj operations.
NAHCON pledged accountability, saying it will not shield any staff found guilty of misconduct.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken into custody two senior officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over alleged fraud connected to the 2025 Hajj operations.
According to top EFCC management sources, the officials remain in detention after failing to return funds they were allegedly asked to refund. The sources, however, declined to disclose the amount involved.
In a statement issued by Fatima Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publication, on behalf of NAHCON Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, the commission emphasized its commitment to accountability and cooperation with relevant government agencies. While not confirming or denying the arrests, NAHCON stressed that it would not protect any staff found guilty of wrongdoing.
The statement urged the public and media to avoid speculation, assuring that the truth would emerge through due process. It added that the commission remains focused on post-Hajj assessments and improving service delivery for future exercises.
The EFCC has not officially commented on the matter. It will be recalled that in 2024, both the EFCC and ICPC investigated the alleged diversion of ₦90 billion in Hajj subsidies, which led to the removal of former NAHCON Chairman, Jalal Arabi, by President Bola Tinubu.
