Bimbo Akintola has criticised Nollywood’s shift from passion to glamour, lamenting actors’ focus on looks over storytelling.
She recalled the industry’s early days, when stars endured hardship out of love for the craft.
Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has voiced her concerns about the changing face of Nollywood, saying the industry is no longer driven by passion as it was in its early years.
In a chat with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Akintola lamented the increasing obsession with physical appearance, makeup, and body enhancement surgeries, noting that these now take precedence over talent and storytelling.
She explained that unlike the early days of Nollywood, when actors worked tirelessly for little or no pay out of sheer passion, many of today’s stars are more preoccupied with glamour than craft. Recalling her early years alongside greats like Sola Sobowale and Joke Silva, she said they endured sleepless nights and difficult conditions just to bring stories to life.
