EFCC Urges Victims of CBEX to Assist Investigations
The EFCC has urged Nigerians defrauded by CBEX to report at its Ibadan and Lagos offices.
The agency said victims’ cooperation is crucial to ongoing trials and recovery efforts.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on Nigerians who lost money to the now-defunct cryptocurrency platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), to present themselves at its offices in Ibadan and Lagos.
The anti-graft agency made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday, by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the EFCC, three individuals Adefowora Olanipekun, Otorudo Avwerosuo, and Ehirim Chukwuebuka are already facing trial over their alleged roles in defrauding investors through CBEX.
The commission explained that the platform enticed people with promises of unusually high returns, which ultimately led to huge financial losses. Many unsuspecting Nigerians were affected when the scheme collapsed in April, wiping out investments worth over ₦1 billion.
In its notice, the agency urged affected investors to step forward with useful information to aid its ongoing probe. It specifically directed victims who transacted through agents connected to CBEX offices in Ibadan and Idimu, Lagos, to report to its Ibadan Zonal Command or Lagos Zonal Command 2 for documentation.
The EFCC stressed that the cooperation of victims would be vital in strengthening its case and ensuring justice for those affected by the failed digital trading platform.
