Atiku Reaffirms Commitment to National Progress, Says Presidency Not a Do-or-Die Affair

Atiku Abubakar says his focus is rescuing Nigeria, not personal ambition, as he backs the ADC coalition.

He stressed the 2027 candidate will emerge through a transparent process reflecting Nigerians’ collective will.

Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has emphasized that his priority remains building a stronger Nigeria rather than clinging to personal ambition.

Speaking in Lagos on Saturday at an affirmation ceremony where prominent members of the PDP and Labour Party formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku represented by Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo described the coalition as a national rescue mission rather than just another political platform.

“Atiku’s vision is for a Nigeria that truly works for its people. This project is not about him occupying the presidency; it is about producing a government that meets the needs of citizens,” Olateju explained on his behalf.

Atiku recently resigned from the PDP alongside other opposition figures and threw his weight behind the ADC. He said the new movement is designed to redirect the country from worsening economic hardship, subsidy removal pains, and inflationary pressures.

According to him, the party’s presidential candidate for 2027 will be chosen through a credible and transparent process. “The goal is a prosperous Nigeria, not Atiku at all costs, not Obi at all costs. Whoever secures the ticket will represent the shared will and aspirations of Nigerians,” he added.

He called on Nigerians to rally behind the coalition, expressing optimism that with unity and divine guidance, the ADC can provide competent, compassionate leadership to steer the nation towards stability and growth.
