Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has weighed in on the long-standing debate about Afrobeats supremacy, singling out Wizkid as the undisputed “king of sexy Afrobeats.”
The singer made this remark during an interview with Complex, where she discussed her collaboration with Wizkid on her chart-topping track “Gimme Dat.”
Ayra explained that when creating the record, she immediately knew Wizkid was the perfect fit, crediting his unique sound and artistry as unmatched in delivering sultry, melodic Afrobeats.
“Nobody else could have been right on that song aside from Wizkid. Even just his sonics and the sound, the chorus pattern feels very Wizkid; it feels very like sexy Afrobeats. And everybody knows Wizkid is the king of sexy Afrobeats,” she said.
