ADC Urges Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency in Katsina, Zamfara
The ADC has urged President Tinubu to declare a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara.
The party said worsening massacres prove Nigeria’s security system has collapsed and needs urgent reform.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately declare a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States following the recent massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina, where dozens of worshippers and villagers were killed.

In a statement released on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the killings as further proof of Nigeria’s collapsing security framework. It noted that more than 140 people have lost their lives in similar attacks across the two states within just two months.
The party urged the Federal Government to impose emergency measures in both states while also embarking on a thorough overhaul of Nigeria’s security structure.
“Given the scale of these tragedies, the ADC demands the immediate declaration of a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara until order is restored and the cycle of bloodshed is brought under control,” Abdullahi said.
The party also faulted the timing of a political meeting recently held in Zamfara by opposition PDP governors, describing it as insensitive to the victims and their families.
The statement highlighted that in Malumfashi alone, about 30 worshippers were shot during early morning prayers, while another 20 residents were burned alive in their homes. It added that in Zamfara, entire villages have been attacked, hostages executed despite ransom payments, and scores abducted.
The ADC criticized President Tinubu’s international travels, arguing that diplomacy abroad is hollow if Nigerian citizens remain unsafe at home.
“It is distressing that the President continues to pursue foreign trips while Nigerians are being slaughtered in their communities. True leadership demands that he directly address victims’ families, offer words of comfort, and provide assurances of safety,” the party stated.
The statement further recalled that the Chief of Defence Staff recently suggested that citizens should learn self-defence something the ADC said only underscores the collapse of the national security system.
“These barbaric attacks reflect the depth of suffering ordinary Nigerians now endure. They also confirm the failure of our security architecture, forcing even the Defence Chief to advise people to defend themselves,” Abdullahi concluded.
