Abuja will host Africa’s first Defence Chiefs Summit on Monday with leaders from across the continent.
The three-day event will focus on peace, border security, and regional cooperation strategies.
The maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit will commence in Abuja on Monday, with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The three-day gathering, which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially open, is expected to draw top military leaders and security experts from across Africa to examine pressing issues of peace, border control, and stability on the continent.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, will welcome participants at the opening ceremony. His remarks will be followed by contributions from the African Union’s Chairperson, Mohamoud Ali Youssoufà, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.
One of the main highlights of the first day will be a plenary session headlined by Kenyan legal scholar and activist, Professor PLO Lumumba. He will lead discussions on the theme “Border Management and Regional Security: Challenges and Perspectives.”
Organizers say the summit’s overarching goal is to strengthen cooperation among African states, build practical frameworks for addressing shared security threats, and develop strategies for effective border management and regional integration.
