The fight erupted after cattle strayed into a woman’s farm, sparking a violent altercation.
A violent clash between a farmer and a herder has resulted in the death of a herdsman and left two others wounded in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
The confrontation happened around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday after a herder identified as Hassan Auta, from Fulani Camp in Makwagi village, allegedly drove his cattle into the farmland of Hadiza Usman, a resident of Koroka village.
According to accounts from locals, trouble started when Usman protested and asked Auta to move his animals out of her crops. Rather than comply, the herder reportedly attacked her with a machete, leaving her with a severe wound on her thigh.
Hearing his mother’s cries, her son, Bashiru Mohammed, rushed to her rescue but was also slashed on the hand during the altercation. In the heat of the struggle, Mohammed retaliated by striking Auta on the head with a machete. The herder collapsed and died shortly after from heavy bleeding.
Security operatives were later called to the scene. They evacuated the body of the deceased herder while the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Agaie for urgent medical care.
