The Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade in Ikeja has handed over a 36-year-old man, Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating a senior military officer.

Khalid was apprehended at the Arena Market in Oshodi while parading himself with a fake Nigerian Army identity card that falsely carried the rank of Major. Soldiers on duty quickly discovered the forgery, arrested him on the spot, and transferred him to the police in what authorities described as a smooth and professional operation.
The case has been referred to Special Squad I of the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation. Detectives are working to uncover the origin of the forged document, identify possible accomplices, and determine whether Khalid exploited the fake identity to carry out other criminal activities. The police have assured that the suspect will face prosecution in court once investigations are concluded.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Army for its decisive action and quick handover of the suspect. He noted that the arrest demonstrates the importance of synergy among security agencies in addressing crime. Jimoh further encouraged members of the public to remain alert and to report suspicious activities, adding that stronger cooperation between security forces will continue to improve safety across the state.
Cases of impersonation of military and police officers have remained a recurring security concern in Nigeria, often linked to fraud, extortion, and other criminal schemes. Authorities warn that such acts will be met with firm legal consequences as part of broader efforts to protect the integrity of the armed forces and ensure public trust.
