ADC Acting Chairman Nafiu Bala refuted claims of holding talks with ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He insisted Atiku belongs to PDP and vowed to resist infiltration by rival parties.
The Acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has dismissed claims linking him to discussions with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stressing that the opposition leader remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no ties to the ADC.
Speaking with journalists in Bauchi, Bala insisted that reports suggesting he held talks with Atiku were false. “Atiku Abubakar is not a member of the ADC. Why should I discuss the ADC with him? As Acting National Chairman, I will not go and discuss with anyone outside the party about its affairs,” he said.
Bala, formerly the ADC Deputy National Chairman, declared that he has officially assumed leadership of the party in line with its constitution following the resignation of Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu. He vowed to resist what he described as infiltration attempts from rival political parties, including the PDP, APC, LP, and APGA, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, some individuals parading themselves as ADC leaders were “handpicked” by Nwosu without due process. Bala maintained that he is the “authentic Acting National Chairman” and has already notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the leadership change.
On allegations that he was expelled from the ADC in Gombe State, Bala dismissed the claims as baseless, noting that stakeholders in his ward had recently reaffirmed his membership. He further alleged that some of those laying claim to the party’s leadership were being sponsored by the APC and the Federal Government to destabilize the ADC.
Bala urged members to remain united, register properly in their wards, and renounce affiliations with other political parties before seeking leadership roles in the ADC.
