Delta Police Arrest Officers Seen Counting Cash in Viral Patrol Van Video
Delta Police have arrested officers filmed counting cash inside a patrol van in Asaba.
The command confirmed disciplinary action, stressing accountability and commitment to restoring public trust.
The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested officers captured in a viral video counting large bundles of money inside a patrol vehicle belonging to the Area Command in Asaba.

The footage, widely circulated on social media, showed uniformed personnel handling stacks of cash in their parked van. The clip sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many questioning whether the money was linked to extortion.
Police spokesperson for the state command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday in a post shared via his verified X account. He disclosed that the officers were immediately tracked down after the video was brought to the attention of the command’s leadership.
According to Edafe, the Commissioner of Police summoned the implicated personnel without delay. “The officers featured in the disturbing video have been identified and taken into custody. They were brought before the CP earlier today,” he stated.
Edafe explained that two senior officers involved in the incident had already been issued official queries, while two inspectors were placed in detention. He added that the detained inspectors would face an orderly room trial, the internal disciplinary procedure used by the Nigeria Police Force to handle misconduct.
“The four officers, including two senior personnel, have been queried, while the inspectors are currently in custody and awaiting disciplinary hearings,” he noted.
The command assured members of the public that disciplinary measures would be enforced once the trial is concluded, underscoring its commitment to accountability and professional conduct within the force.
