The Grammy-winning artist, born Montero Hill, was taken into custody on Thursday, August 21, after allegedly assaulting a police officer. He was initially booked on a misdemeanor but later faced upgraded charges. Reports suggested the singer was briefly hospitalized for a suspected overdose, but the Los Angeles Police Department did not confirm the incident.

On Monday, August 25, Lil Nas X appeared before a judge and pleaded not guilty to four felony charges. These include three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

The “Old Town Road” hitmaker was held until he posted $75,000 bail later that day, securing his release. A court has fixed his preliminary hearing for September 15.

If convicted, Lil Nas X could face up to five years in state prison. In addition, the court ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings each week, with police suggesting he was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
