Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Warns NFF Against Early Termination Without Full Contract Settlement

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has warned the NFF that ending his contract early must come with full settlement.

His caution follows Nigeria’s poor CHAN outing and rising doubts ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle has cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that any move to terminate his contract prematurely must be accompanied by full payment of the remaining terms.

Chelle’s warning comes amid growing speculation about his future following Nigeria’s early exit from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The home-based Eagles lost their first two matches against Senegal and Sudan, a poor run that saw them eliminated from the tournament at the group stage.

The disappointing campaign has fueled debates among fans over whether Chelle has the capacity to guide the three-time African champions to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The qualifiers for the global tournament are just weeks away, heightening pressure on the coach.

Speaking in an interview, Chelle admitted he is aware of talks about his possible dismissal. “I have heard a lot of stories about them wanting to sack me and replace me with someone else. I know very well that I can be fired after one match. This is life in football,” he said.

However, he emphasized that the federation must honor contractual obligations if such a decision is taken. “If they decide to do that, they must be prepared to pay up the remainder of my contract,” Chelle added.

The NFF has not released an official statement concerning Chelle’s future. For now, all eyes are on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, where Nigeria’s performance could determine whether the coach retains his position or faces an early exit.
