The agreement was concluded on Monday during his official state visit to Brasília. In a statement released by Tunde Moshood, media aide to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the deal was confirmed as a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s international aviation links.

At the signing event, witnessed by President Tinubu and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, signed on behalf of the country, while Brazil’s Minister of Transport, Silvio Costa Filho, endorsed the pact for his nation.

The new framework allows for direct passenger and cargo flights between both countries, which is expected to strengthen economic ties, promote tourism, encourage investments, and broaden diplomatic relations.

According to the statement, the agreement reflects Nigeria’s wider push to expand global partnerships and improve international air connectivity.

President Tinubu was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, among others.

President Lula welcomed the signing, stressing that his administration is eager to expand cooperation with Nigeria not only in aviation but also in agriculture, infrastructure, and other key sectors. He described the deal as proof of the strong friendship between both nations and an opportunity to deepen economic and cultural collaboration.

During the two-day visit, Tinubu is scheduled to hold talks with top Brazilian officials, including the Senate President, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Federal Court. The visit will also feature sector-wide discussions aimed at unlocking fresh opportunities for growth and shared prosperity between Nigeria and Brazil.
