Anambra State Bans Extravagant Graduation Parties
Anambra State has banned extravagant graduation ceremonies in schools, warning against exploiting parents with costly celebrations.
The Education Commissioner stressed schools must focus on quality learning, staff training, and equal opportunities for every child.
The Anambra State Government has prohibited what it described as extravagant and unnecessary graduation ceremonies in schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the decision during the opening of a three-day workshop for proprietors of private schools in Awka, Aguata, and Nnewi zones. She explained that the policy aims to protect parents from financial exploitation disguised as school graduation celebrations.
The conference was designed to train school administrators on modern teaching techniques, effective management practices, and curriculum updates. According to her, this is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of raising the quality of education in both public and private schools.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh urged school owners to remember that education is primarily a calling, not a platform for material pursuits. She cautioned them against encouraging children to develop materialistic attitudes or unhealthy rivalries through such ceremonies.
She also emphasized the importance of continuous training for teachers and staff, noting that regular professional development would help maintain high standards.
The Commissioner further stressed that every child deserves equal access to quality education. She assured that the Ministry of Education is committed to providing school proprietors with the necessary guidelines, frameworks, and curriculum support required to meet basic standards across the state.
