Lagos Government Condemns Attack on VIO Officials, Vows Justice
Lagos State has condemned motorists who assaulted Vehicle Inspection Officers in a viral video.
Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi vowed perpetrators would be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted for attacking state enforcement officers.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has strongly condemned the assault on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) by motorists in a video that went viral earlier this week.

The footage shows some motorists physically attacking the officers after their vehicle was stopped and double-crossed in an attempt to impound it. The attackers were seen punching and rough-handling the officials, sparking outrage online.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the act as “shameful, unacceptable, and an insult not just to the officers involved but to the authority of Lagos State itself.” He vowed that such behavior would not go unpunished.
Osiyemi emphasized that VIO personnel are authorized representatives of the state, tasked with protecting lives through road safety enforcement. According to him, assaulting them is “a direct attack on the rule of law, a disruption of public order, and a challenge to institutions established to safeguard society.” He added that the perpetrators would be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The commissioner confirmed that the injured officers are currently receiving treatment but insisted that their recovery does not reduce the seriousness of the offense. He assured that the state government stands firmly with the victims and all enforcement officers, stressing that their safety and dignity will always be protected.
“The government will never allow criminals to intimidate or obstruct its lawful operations,” Osiyemi stated, pledging that Lagos will continue to defend those who serve the state.
