Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Fenerbahce after their Champions League playoff elimination.

Fenerbahce were beaten 1-0 on aggregate, ending their hopes of reaching the group stage of Europe’s elite competition. The loss marked a turning point for the club’s management, who had hired the Portuguese coach in June 2024 on a two-year contract.

The 62-year-old, widely regarded as one of football’s most decorated managers, also fell short domestically last season, finishing second in the Turkish Super Lig behind Galatasaray. The failure to secure either silverware or Champions League football ultimately cost him his job.

Mourinho’s dismissal marks his fourth consecutive sacking, following earlier exits from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and AS Roma. Despite his illustrious résumé, which includes Champions League titles with Porto and Inter Milan, questions are growing over his ability to deliver success at the highest level in recent years.

Speculation is already swirling about his next destination, with reports linking him to a potential Premier League return. Clubs such as West Ham United and Nottingham Forest are reportedly monitoring his availability as they weigh their managerial options.

For now, Mourinho’s exit leaves Fenerbahce searching for a new coach to revive their domestic and European ambitions, while the veteran tactician once again faces the challenge of rebuilding his managerial career.
