Oxlade Calls for Longer Songs in Nigerian Music

Afrobeats star Oxlade has appealed to Nigerian artists to return to making five-minute songs.

The singer’s call contrasts with his breakout hit “Kulosa,” which runs barely two and half minutes.

Afrobeats star Ikuforiji Olaitan, popularly known as Oxlade, has urged Nigerian artists to consider extending the length of their songs.

The singer, in a post shared on his X page on Thursday, made a simple appeal that quickly caught the attention of fans and colleagues. He wrote: “Bring back 5 minutes songs.”

Interestingly, Oxlade himself has previously followed the trend of shorter songs. His 2022 breakout hit, ‘Kulosa’, runs for just 2 minutes and 31 seconds, highlighting the contrast between the industry’s current format and his new advocacy.
