Rita Daniels Joins Race for AGN Presidency

Veteran actress Rita Daniels has officially joined the race for the Actors Guild of Nigeria presidency.

She will face Abubakar Yakubu in the December election to succeed outgoing leader Emeka Rollas.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is set for a new leadership contest as veteran actress Rita Daniels Chukwuji has declared her intention to run for the guild’s top seat.

Her manifesto, unveiled on the guild’s official Instagram page on Thursday, promises a leadership style that will “protect, value, and empower members.” Rita, who has been active in Nollywood for nearly two decades, is not only an actress but also a mentor to young talents. She is also the mother of Nollywood star Regina Daniels.

She will be challenging Abubakar Yakubu, the current national secretary of AGN, for the position. Yakubu, who has served in that role for six years, had earlier announced his candidacy in February. He has pledged to prioritize members’ welfare, push for better pay, and improve working conditions while creating more opportunities in the creative space.

A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Yakubu has established himself as an actor and producer with works spanning stage plays, films, and television series.

The upcoming election, scheduled for December 6, 2025, will see one of them succeed Emeka Rollas, who has been president of AGN since 2017 and whose tenure will officially end in December. A National Electoral Committee has already been set up to supervise the process.
