Ogun State Approves 130 Hectares for Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port, Unveils Electric Bike Scheme

Ogun State has approved 130 hectares in Ijebu-Ode for the proposed Inland Dry Port project.

Governor Dapo Abiodun says the facility will boost industrialization, investments, and regional economic competitiveness.

The Ogun State Government has approved 130 hectares of land along the Epe–Mojoda Expressway in Ijebu-Ode for the proposed Inland Dry Port project, in a move expected to position the state as a logistics and industrial hub.

The land release, confirmed in a statement on the government’s official X handle on Friday, follows a request made on June 26, 2025, by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Governor Abiodun described the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port as a transformative project that, alongside the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, would accelerate industrialization, attract fresh investments, and make Ogun State a key player in regional and national economic competitiveness.

“The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port will serve as a vital enabler for industrial growth, prosperity, and regional competitiveness, providing immense opportunities for our people and the Nigerian economy at large,” Abiodun said.

The state government explained that the facility will be strategically connected to the Lekki Deep Sea Port by rail, while also linking with the proposed Kajola and Moniya Dry Ports and the Gateway Airport. This integrated network is projected to enhance efficiency in cargo handling, reduce production costs for manufacturers, and strengthen Ogun’s industrial clusters.

With the Kajola Inland Dry Port already secured for Ogun Central and the new Ijebu-Ode terminal planned for the eastern corridor, authorities say the initiative reflects a deliberate effort to ensure balanced development across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The Federal Government had earlier approved the establishment of Inland Dry Ports in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and Moniya, Oyo State, as part of measures to decongest Lagos seaports and boost trade competitiveness. During the 2025 budget defence, Minister Oyetola confirmed that design consultancy work was ongoing, adding that the projects would create thousands of jobs for youths in the South-West.

In a related development, the Ogun State Government also announced plans to introduce electric-powered motorcycles as a palliative measure to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on residents. The initiative, officials say, will not only provide affordable transportation but also align with the state’s long-term transition to cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions.
