The presentation of the medical items took place at the council headquarters in Nzam and was coordinated by the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor. He explained that the initiative is part of the state’s wider plan to revitalize healthcare delivery at the grassroots and ensure that residents in remote areas have better access to functional health facilities.

The items supplied include stethoscopes, baby cots, suction machines, pulse oximeters, delivery kits, hospital beds, anti-shock garments, and drip stands. Others are ward screens, Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tapes, and a range of diagnostic tools intended to improve both maternal and general patient care.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hon. Nnazor stressed that quality and affordable healthcare is a right that every citizen of the state should enjoy, regardless of their location. He said the provision of medical equipment was not only to upgrade facilities but also to reinforce the confidence of residents in public health centres.

According to him, the intervention reflects Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s broader health agenda, which is designed to strengthen primary healthcare as the first line of defense against illnesses. “This program is in line with Governor Soludo’s commitment to building a healthier Anambra. Our PHCs must be properly equipped so they can serve the needs of our people effectively,” he said.

Nnazor further explained that the government is introducing a series of health-friendly policies, including free antenatal and delivery services in state-owned health facilities, to reduce maternal and infant mortality. He assured that more health projects would be implemented in the coming months to complement the equipment distribution.

The initiative has been welcomed by health workers and community leaders, who believe the new equipment will ease pressure on overstretched facilities and improve response during emergencies. Residents also expressed optimism that the support would reduce the burden of traveling long distances to access medical care.
