APC Sweeps Rivers LG Polls, Wins 20 of 23 Councils as PDP Suffers Major Setback

APC has won 20 out of 23 local councils in Rivers State’s just concluded elections.

The victory marks a major political shift, weakening PDP’s dominance despite holding the governorship.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a significant victory in the recent local government elections in Rivers State, securing 20 out of 23 councils, according to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

In contrast, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was only able to win three councils. Notably, the APC claimed victory in Opobo-Nkoro, which is the home local government area of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

During the results announcement on Sunday, RSIEC Chairman Dr. Michael Odey formally presented the final tallies at the commission’s headquarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

This outcome represents a substantial shift in the political dynamics of Rivers State, undermining the PDP’s influence despite its hold on the governorship.

These results could lead to new alliances and heightened competition as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
