Veteran highlife musician, Bright Chimezie, has debunked the popular belief that smoking and drinking alcohol enhance creativity among artists.

Speaking on a recent episode of the CreativTea Podcast, Chimezie explained that such claims are unfounded and misleading, stressing that substance use has nothing to do with producing good music or unlocking inspiration.
He said, “The idea that drinking or smoking gives you musical inspiration is completely false. When you drink or smoke, you’re only having fun, but it doesn’t in any way enhance your creativity.”
According to him, many artists who indulge in smoking or alcohol often justify their habits by linking them to their craft, but in reality, the only outcome is temporary excitement. He argued that genuine creativity cannot be manufactured by substances.
The respected singer further highlighted that music inspiration flows naturally and is often fueled by life experiences, discipline, and passion, rather than artificial stimulants. He encouraged younger artists to focus on honing their skills and drawing inspiration from everyday life instead of depending on harmful habits.
