NAFDAC Seals Illegal Lagos Cosmetic Factory Over Harmful Skin Products
NAFDAC has shut down an illegal cosmetic factory in Agege producing unsafe bleaching products.
Officials seized unregistered items and warned consumers to stay vigilant against harmful skincare products.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed an unlicensed cosmetic factory in Agege, Lagos, after discovering the production of harmful bleaching products falsely marketed as safe and organic.

The facility, identified as Shine Shine Skincare, was shut down following a raid in which officials uncovered a wide range of unregistered products manufactured under poor Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions.
“NAFDAC has sealed an illegal cosmetic production facility, Shine Shine Skincare, in Agege, Lagos State. The operation uncovered illicit bleaching cosmetics deceptively marketed as organic, despite being manufactured under unsafe GMP conditions,” the agency said via its official X handle.
During the inspection, officials found multiple unregistered cosmetics already packaged for sale to unsuspecting consumers. Items seized included:
- Peeling White Scrub
- Glass Scrub Wash
- Antiaging Radiant Glow
- Customized Whitening Black Soap
- 10X Customized Native Soap
- 5D Instant Whitening Soap
- Yellow Tone Whitening Body Cream
- Exfoliation Soap
- Customized Body Cream
NAFDAC stated that these products were unsafe bleaching agents containing banned substances, such as corticosteroid-based chemicals, which can cause severe side effects, including skin thinning, delayed healing, and an increased risk of injury.
The agency stressed that the factory posed a significant threat to public health and assured that investigations were ongoing to ensure those responsible face sanctions.
“Nigerians must remain vigilant when buying cosmetics and other regulated products,” NAFDAC warned, adding that consumers should always verify product authenticity before use.
In a related raid within the same complex, officials arrested Mr. Pius Effiong Eyoh, owner of Pasco Global Limited, for producing counterfeit skincare items with deceptive foreign labels and a fake Cameroonian address. His facility was shut down, and the products were destroyed.
