The family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, is in mourning following the death of her sister, Ruth Otabor.
Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2025, by Eko Solicitors & Advocates.
The tragic incident that led to Ruth’s death occurred earlier on August 13 near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, just six days after she graduated from the institution. A Dangote truck crushed her leg during the accident, leading to an amputation despite efforts to save her. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was eventually stopped by a bystander.
In the days after the incident, Phyna openly demanded justice, accusing the company of negligence and vowing not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet. Although the Dangote Group admitted responsibility and promised medical care as well as compensation, tensions heightened when staff of the company posted pictures of Ruth’s injuries online without the family’s consent.
Ruth’s death has drawn emotional reactions across social media, with fans and fellow celebrities offering condolences and urging accountability.
