Goodluck Jonathan Shouldn’t Contest in 2027, Says Wike
Wike has cautioned Goodluck Jonathan against making a political comeback in 2027, warning him not to trust the same figures who undermined his presidency.
The FCT minister also dismissed personal presidential ambition, reaffirming loyalty to President Bola Tinubu.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan not to consider returning to the presidential race in 2027.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Wike said Jonathan should not allow himself to be influenced by politicians who, according to him, deceived and abandoned him in the past. He advised the former president to protect his global image and avoid falling into the same trap again.
“I know Jonathan very well. He has international respect and should maintain that. These same people weighing Jonathan down are the ones who played him in 2015,” Wike said.
The minister expressed concern that the calls for Jonathan to contest were being pushed by political figures who allegedly worked against him during his last bid. He described such moves as attempts to create fresh divisions within the political space.
Wike also used the opportunity to clarify his own position ahead of 2027. He dismissed speculations about his presidential ambition, stressing that his loyalty remains with President Bola Tinubu.
“I have integrity, I have character. The person who appointed me is there. We are saying he should run. Then I will turn around to say I want to run? What kind of thing is that? I will not run for president,” he said.
According to Wike, his focus is to deliver on his assignment as FCT Minister while supporting the current administration to succeed.
