Court Orders Two DNA Tests on Mohbad’s Son Amid Paternity Dispute

An Ikorodu Magistrate Court has ordered two DNA tests to determine the paternity of Mohbad’s son.

The ruling follows an application by the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, seeking confirmation.

A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has ordered that two DNA tests be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga gave the ruling on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following an application by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who is seeking to confirm the child’s paternity.

The application, brought under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, listed Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, as the respondent.

Aloba’s team of lawyers, headed by Augustine Adegbemi from Dr. Wahab Shittu’s (SAN) chambers, asked for samples to be collected from Mohbad’s body at the Military Hospital in Yaba to enable DNA testing, either in Lagos or at another recognized laboratory outside the state. The request also included a petition for permission to conduct an additional test overseas at Aloba’s cost.

In his argument, Aloba maintained that uncertainty surrounding Liam’s paternity made the test necessary to conclusively resolve the issue, citing its implications for the child’s welfare and future maintenance. The application was not opposed, leading the magistrate to grant the order.

The court directed that both tests, one in Nigeria and another abroad, be carried out in accredited hospitals, with both parties or their representatives present during sample collection. The hearing has been postponed to November 11, 2025, for additional proceedings.
