Obasanjo Urges Urgent Action to Expand Healthcare Access in Nigeria
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged urgent reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly in rural communities.
He praised technology-driven initiatives like Care 365 as vital to bridging access and affordability gaps.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for urgent and sustained action to improve healthcare delivery across Nigeria, especially in remote and underserved communities.

Speaking in Abuja at the unveiling of the Care 365 Health Hub, Obasanjo stressed that healthcare is a basic human need, remarking that the only people who no longer require medical care are the dead. He lamented the country’s inadequate healthcare infrastructure, which compels many Nigerians to travel long distances to access treatment.
The former president praised the Care 365 project a technology-driven platform that provides smart health kiosks and telemedicine services as an important step toward closing gaps in healthcare access and delivering affordable services to low-income populations.
He also faulted previous governments for failing to prioritize the health sector, urging both public and private stakeholders to ensure that innovative solutions like Care 365 are targeted at communities with the greatest need.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was also present at the event, echoed Obasanjo’s concerns.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, officially launched the complementary Care 360 Health Hub, describing it as part of the federal government’s agenda to make healthcare more affordable, accessible, and effective.
Pate explained that the Care 360 platform supports the national strategy to improve healthcare governance, enhance service delivery, strengthen security in the sector, and unlock value across the health system.
He noted that the launch represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital health journey and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a people-focused healthcare system that meets the needs of all citizens, regardless of where they live or their economic status.
