Tinubu Reinstates Dembos as NTA DG, Reverses Earlier Appointments

President Bola Tinubu has reinstated Salihu Dembos as NTA Director-General and Ayo Adewuyi as Executive Director of News.

The decision reverses recent appointments and restores continuity at the state broadcaster.

President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Mr. Ayo Adewuyi as the Executive Director of News, reversing appointments made only two weeks earlier.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced that the president had recalled both officials to complete their tenures.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the recall of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Dembos had briefly vacated his position due to some management changes within the agency. He will now return to complete his three-year tenure,” the statement read.

Dembos was first appointed as the Director-General of the NTA in October 2023 by President Tinubu. Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed as Executive Director of News in 2024, was also recalled to continue his tenure, which runs until 2027.

The move effectively reverses the August 20 announcement that named Rotimi Pedro as the new Director-General of NTA and Stella Din as Executive Director of News. The presidency’s earlier directive had also introduced changes in other top positions, including the Executive Director of Marketing and the Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.

Tuesday’s statement clarifies that those appointments have now been set aside, restoring continuity at the state-owned broadcaster.

The reversal underscores Tinubu’s continued confidence in Dembos and Adewuyi, who will now resume their leadership roles in steering the network’s operations.
