Toke Makinwa Opens Up on Challenges in Her Past Marriage
Toke Makinwa has opened up about her past marriage, calling leaving both difficult and necessary.
The media personality said prioritizing her well-being over a toxic relationship ultimately saved her future.
Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has spoken about the struggles she faced during her former marriage, admitting that leaving was one of the hardest yet most important decisions she ever made.

In a recent chat with media host Chude Jideonwo, the entrepreneur reflected on the pain of living through a public relationship while battling private issues that many could not understand. She expressed gratitude for finding the courage to walk away, even in the face of judgment and misconceptions.
Makinwa explained that people often misinterpret survivors’ experiences, assuming their pain wasn’t deep simply because they managed to survive.
“People like to say it must not have been that bad because you didn’t die. But if someone comes back 10 mins stronger, it unsettles others. Instead of learning from it, they see your strength as a threat. Until you have walked in my shoes, don’t comment on it,” she said.
She admitted that if her marriage had been private, she might have considered staying longer. But the constant public attention and the intensity of her emotions made it unsafe for her well-being.
“Maybe I could have stayed if it wasn’t so public. But the way I loved this person would have been dangerous for me. If I stayed, how I felt would have consumed my entire life,” she added.
Toke stressed that prioritizing herself over a toxic relationship was the only way to protect her life and future, even though walking away was a painful process.
