Governor Alia Assigns Portfolios to 17 Newly Inaugurated Commissioners in Benue
Governor Hyacinth Alia has assigned portfolios to 17 newly sworn-in commissioners in Benue State.
He urged them to serve with integrity while dismissing rumors that he appointed himself Commissioner for Works.

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has officially allocated portfolios to the 17 commissioners sworn in earlier this week. The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, during the State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.
Speaking at the session, the governor urged the commissioners to serve with dedication and integrity, stressing that their loyalty and teamwork would be vital to the success of his administration. He noted that the appointments were a call to action, insisting that the people of Benue deserved governance that could deliver measurable results.
According to Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, who briefed reporters after the meeting, the commissioners were assigned as follows:
- Hon. Alumo Orpin – Industry, Trade, and Investment
- Hon. Ugwu Odoh – Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change
- Hon. Kunde Aondowase – Humanitarian and Disaster Management
- Hon. Kwaghgba Amande – ICT and Digital Economy
- Dr. Ortese Yanmar – Cooperative and Rural Development
- Dr. Frederick Ikyaan – Lands
- Mr. Michael Oglegba – Finance
- Hon. Tiza Isaac Imojime – Youth, Sports, and Creativity
- Dr. Benjamin Ashaver – Agriculture and Food Security
- Dr. Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa – Education and Knowledge Management
- Hon. Dennis Iyaighgba – Marine and Blue Economy
- Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche – Health and Human Services
- Hon. Joseph Ter Jir – Power and Renewable Energy
- Hon. James Dwem – Science and Technology
- Dr. Ornguga Yangien – Attorney General and Justice
- Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue – Women Affairs
- Dr. Peter Oboh Egbodo – Information and Orientation
Meanwhile, social media was awash with claims that Governor Alia had declared himself Commissioner for Works. Reacting to the rumors, CPS Kula dismissed them as false and urged the public to disregard the reports. He warned those spreading misinformation to stop and delete such content immediately.
Kula stressed the importance of accurate reporting in matters of governance and encouraged citizens to focus on supporting government policies rather than amplifying falsehoods.
Governor Alia, while reinforcing his call for unity, emphasized that the success of his cabinet would depend on teamwork and collective responsibility. He also appealed to the media and the people of Benue to support the commissioners in their new roles, adding that his administration remained committed to grassroots development and open communication with communities across the state.
