Over 300 Displaced as Gunmen Attack Seven Plateau Communities
Gunmen have attacked seven villages in Plateau’s Qua’an Pan LGA, displacing over 300 residents and destroying 30 houses.
Local leaders condemned the assaults and urged communities to embrace peace amid rising tensions.
More than 300 people have been displaced and at least 30 houses destroyed following coordinated gunmen attacks on seven villages in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Although no lives were lost, the assaults left widespread destruction, particularly for farmers, with several barns and food stores razed. The attacks occurred just days after four herders were killed and another injured while grazing in Fili village, also within Doemak District of the same council area.
Confirming the incident, Qua’an Pan LGA spokesman Danaan Cletus Sylvanus said council chairman Christopher Manship had visited the affected villages. The attacked communities include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 3, Sylvanus said the council boss had met with stakeholders and urged residents to remain watchful.
“The Executive Chairman of Qua’an Pan, Hon. Christopher Manship, condemned the attacks and appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community associations to work with him in finding a lasting solution,” he explained.
According to him, security personnel have been deployed to restore order in the affected areas, while efforts are ongoing to support displaced residents.
Sylvanus added that the chairman held a dialogue session with religious and traditional leaders, stressing the need for communities to embrace peace and avoid divisions along ethnic or religious lines.
Local sources said the fear of renewed clashes remains high, but security operatives are patrolling the villages to prevent further violence.
