The announcement was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

According to the ministry, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated a “clear commitment to the education and rehabilitation” of the young women, noting that their welfare continues to be a moral obligation for the Nigerian state more than a decade after their abduction by Boko Haram militants in Borno State in 2014.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, also reaffirmed that the government “does not play politics with the future of Nigerian children,” stressing that the Chibok Girls Intervention Program is a national responsibility rather than a partisan issue.

Under the new arrangement, the 108 girls currently under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs will continue to receive comprehensive support until 2027. The package includes academic sponsorship, skills training, psychosocial and medical care, parental support, and monitoring of their educational progress.

The statement revealed that 68 of the girls are presently enrolled at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, an institution owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. It added that despite political differences, the government has consistently approved payments for their tuition, accommodation, and related fees to ensure their education is not disrupted.

Breakdown of the intervention shows that N389.6 million has been earmarked for outstanding tuition fees for 68 students in the 2024/25 academic year, while N515.7 million will cover tuition for 30 students between 2025 and 2027. Additional funds are set aside for vocational starter packs, rent allowances for nine girls living in Adamawa, food supplies, sanitary items, surgical procedures, and logistics.

The ministry appealed to Nigerians, including political leaders, to support the rehabilitation program rather than using the issue as a tool for criticism. It emphasized that the President remains determined to ensure the rescued girls are fully rehabilitated, educated, and reintegrated into society.
