The South African star claimed the prize for a second year, beating top Nigerian contenders.
South African sensation Tyla has once again etched her name in global music history after winning the Best Afrobeats award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The singer clinched the coveted award with her chart-topping single “Push 2 Start,” outshining some of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars, including Burna Boy, Asake, Tems, Rema, and Wizkid.

This win makes it Tyla’s second straight triumph in the Afrobeats category. Her first came in 2024 when her breakout track “Water” not only dominated charts worldwide but also introduced her to a broader international audience. With “Push 2 Start” repeating the feat this year, Tyla has further cemented her place as one of the leading voices shaping the genre’s global sound.
