A 34-year-old man, Abiola Awonugba, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a housewife in the presence of her husband in Ondo State.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, brought the suspect to court over the alleged incident, which reportedly occurred on August 23, 2025, around 3:30 p.m. at Ijo-Mimo, Ijoka Road, Akure South Local Government Area.
Prosecutor O.F. Akeredolu told the court that Awonugba unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the woman and physically assaulted her husband, Mr. Fasore, during the attack.
The defendant faces a two-count charge bordering on unlawful sexual intercourse and inflicting bodily harm, offences contrary to Sections 357, 358 and 335 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law, 2006.
Although his plea was not taken, the prosecutor requested the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, applied for an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit opposing the remand request.
Magistrate Tina Ayodele-James granted the prosecution’s application, ordering that Awonugba be held in custody. The matter was adjourned to September 16 for a ruling on the remand motion.
