The controversial project, located on Oduola Street in Oke Okanla, Osogbo, drew public outrage over the weekend after images of the obstruction circulated online. Many residents questioned how such a project could be completed without addressing the obvious safety hazard.

Responding to the backlash, Senator Fadeyi clarified that the relocation of electricity poles is not within his mandate. According to him, responsibility for repositioning such installations rests with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

In a statement posted on X, the lawmaker explained that his role was limited to facilitating the road construction as part of his constituency projects, while the utility company was expected to manage power infrastructure adjustments.

“My attention has been drawn to a viral picture of a road in my constituency. It’s on record that the last time the road was constructed was in 1988. Since then, no government has ever seen any reason to construct it. Also, the relocation of electricity poles was not in the bill of quantities and should be done by the IBEDC,” Fadeyi said.

The Senator further stressed that the reconstruction of the long-neglected road was a significant achievement for the community, but acknowledged that proper coordination with the electricity provider was necessary to ensure the project’s safe completion.

Despite his clarification, critics argue that completing a road project without addressing the obstruction raises questions about planning, safety, and accountability. The incident has reignited debate about the coordination gaps between lawmakers, contractors, and utility companies in delivering public infrastructure.

For now, residents await swift action from IBEDC to remove and reposition the pole, ensuring that the road can be used safely and effectively.
