During a visit to the proposed site, the Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, said the tour was to identify a viable location for an airport with an adjoining industrial park designed under an aerotropolis model.

Nwafor, who also heads the Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, said the project would unlock major economic opportunities by combining aviation infrastructure with commercial, residential, and logistics facilities to create a vibrant airport-driven city. He added that multiple airports in the state would accelerate industrialization and boost development.

Community leaders, including Hon. Fabian Nwosu, former President-General of the Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, the community’s Vice President, thanked the state government for siting the project in their area. They pledged full support, security, and cooperation to ensure smooth implementation.

Other officials on the inspection team included Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, Managing Director of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security; Mr. Chukwudi Ezenwa, architect and founder of Sliding Towers; and local chiefs and elders of Ndikelionwu.

Geologists and geophysicists from the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited also conducted geomapping of the location.

The state government says the project is expected to create jobs, attract investors, and strengthen Anambra’s position as an emerging hub for aviation and industrial activities in the Southeast.
