Jonathan and Obi Meet Privately in Abuja

Peter Obi met former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, sparking speculation about possible political realignments.

The private session fueled talk of alliances as 2027 election strategies slowly take shape nationwide.

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, met with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday during a private session in Abuja.

Obi revealed the visit on his official X account, calling Jonathan his “elder brother, statesman and leader” and said they had a “fruitful meeting” about national issues.

Although no official statement was released on the discussions, the meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity and ongoing debate over Nigeria’s governance under President Bola Tinubu.

Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, has in recent years played a mediation role in national and African affairs, especially on conflict resolution and democratic reforms. Obi has also remained active in political circles since the 2023 election, holding meetings with major stakeholders after coming third behind Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.

Thursday’s meeting is the latest in Obi’s outreach to influential figures, which some observers see as a sign of possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speculation about Jonathan’s role in 2027 politics increased after the Peoples Democratic Party zoned its presidential ticket to the South. Reports have also circulated about PDP efforts to bring Obi back to the party, viewing him as a strong contender capable of challenging Tinubu in the next general election.
