Police Update Public on ‘Obi of Lagos’ Arrest and Palace Fraud Probe
Lagos Police gave fresh details about Chibuike Azubike, who posed as “Obi of Lagos.”
They said his planned N1.5 billion palace event was fake and meant to scam people.
Newskobo.com earlier reported that police had arrested a man posing as the ‘Obi of Lagos’ over an unauthorized coronation ceremony.
The Lagos State Police Command has released new details about the arrest of Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who claimed to be the “Obi of Lagos.”

Azubike was picked up after reports surfaced about a planned unveiling of a N1.5 billion palace linked to the so-called Obi of Lagos. The event was scheduled to hold on September 13 at Apple Hall in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
In a statement on Thursday night, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi B. Oluseyi, said investigations showed that Azubike is not an engineer but only supplies construction materials to companies. According to the police, he admitted this during questioning.
The police also said the planned palace unveiling was a scheme to defraud unsuspecting people. “The investigation further established that the principal suspect acted alone, without the backing or recognition of any legitimate chieftaincy authority,” the statement read.
The command urged the public to ignore Azubike’s claims and “other misleading publications on social media aimed at causing disaffection among the peace-loving people of Lagos.” It added that the investigation is ongoing and those found involved will be charged in court once inquiries are complete.
