Tunji-Ojo Dismisses Rumored Rift with Ondo Governor

Nigeria’s Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo dismissed rumors of conflict with Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He stressed unity, grassroots development and support for President Tinubu’s achievements during a medical outreach event.

Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has denied speculation of a political feud with Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, saying he has no conflict with the governor and is focused on serving the state and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The clarification came after members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the Ondo Mandate Elders Forum expressed concern about what they described as a “perceived disagreement” between the two leaders. They urged them to cooperate ahead of the 2027 elections and warned that prolonged tension could harm the party’s chances.

Speaking on Thursday at Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area during a medical outreach organized by the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Tunji-Ojo described the rumors as “baseless gossip.”

The minister, represented by his ally Hon. Bode Obanla, said his main priority is to support initiatives that showcase the achievements of President Tinubu. He explained that local politics should focus on unity and development rather than unnecessary speculation about divisions.

“I have no quarrel with the governor. What matters is our joint effort to highlight President Tinubu’s achievements,” he said.

“Politics begins at the grassroots, and my duty is to back genuine groups committed to promoting the President’s policies.”

He added that GMT is a national movement with a record of innovative projects rather than a purely state-based group. According to him, its outreach programs demonstrate effective grassroots mobilization.

“Any group working to advance the President’s message at the grassroots is welcome. GMT has shown commendable initiatives, and I will continue to support efforts that spread the President’s achievements,” Tunji-Ojo said.

GMT’s Director-General, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, explained that the free medical outreach is targeting about 1,000 beneficiaries per senatorial district and will expand to more constituencies. He noted the initiative complements President Tinubu’s social policies.

He thanked the Minister of Interior for his backing and pledged that GMT would roll out more impactful programs to promote the President’s vision.

“Health is wealth, and GMT will keep partnering with government agencies to deliver these services,” Yusuf-Ogunleye said.

Also speaking at the event, GMT’s Women Leader, Mrs. Olamide Falana, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to taking President Tinubu’s policies to the grassroots and showcasing the administration’s achievements.
