Kebbi Lawmakers Seek Malami’s Prosecution Over Alleged Breach of Peace
Kebbi State lawmakers asked security agencies to arrest Abubakar Malami over violence during his recent visit.
They rejected his petition against Governor Nasir Idris and reaffirmed support for Kebbi’s peace and stability.
Members of the Kebbi State Caucus in the National Assembly have demanded the arrest and prosecution of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, over a violent incident in the state last week.

At a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) spoke on behalf of the group, dismissing a petition dated 10 September 2025 that Malami filed against Governor Nasir Idris. The lawmakers pledged their full backing for the governor, commending what they described as his tireless efforts to maintain law and order across Kebbi State.
Flanked by other senators and House of Representatives members from Kebbi, Aliero rejected Malami’s allegations that the state government and ruling party were importing political thugs, hiring foreign mercenaries and engaging in clandestine arms deals. He described the claims as baseless and politically motivated, accusing Malami of trying to destabilize the state and tarnish the administration’s image.
Aliero alleged that during Malami’s recent visit to Birnin Kebbi, the former minister arrived with hired supporters from outside the state, who later attacked the APC secretariat with stones while chanting slogans against the governor. He said the violence was unprecedented in Kebbi’s usually peaceful political environment and underscored the need for law enforcement to act.
The caucus maintained that neither the state government nor the APC had been involved in any covert security operations or had links to extremist groups. They stressed that Kebbi remains one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states due to investments in security, collaboration with law enforcement agencies and public support.
Calling Malami’s petition a smear campaign, the lawmakers urged Nigerians and security agencies to treat it with caution. They demanded that Malami be invited to present evidence for his allegations and called on authorities to prioritize real security threats rather than “partisan theatrics.”
Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) added that Malami’s residence is located close to the APC state headquarters and argued that no violence had ever occurred there until his convoy’s recent arrival. He accused the former minister of staging a campaign-style visit aimed at provoking APC supporters and challenged him to provide proof of any alleged importation of weapons or links to terrorism.
Maidoki also lauded President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to curb banditry, noting that many villages in his constituency once abandoned due to insecurity had now been reoccupied. He reaffirmed that Kebbi lawmakers oppose all forms of terrorism and criminality, insisting that their party would never be associated with violence or extremism.
The caucus concluded by reaffirming its support for Governor Nasir Idris and promising to continue working for the peace, progress and stability of Kebbi State.
