Yobe police have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of luring and r@png an 11-year-old girl.
Officials say the child is receiving treatment as investigations continue to secure justice for her.
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man accused of r@png an 11-year-old girl in Fika Local Government Area. The command said the suspect, identified as Ishiaku Bukar, was apprehended by operatives from the Fika Divisional Headquarters after a distress call from the girl’s guardian.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident happened on September 13, 2025. The suspect allegedly lured the girl to his farm by offering to help her with a promise of a reward.
The police stated that during questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime. The girl has since been taken for medical care and treatment while investigations continue to build a case against the suspect.
The command raised concern about the rise in harassment and abuse of women and children who work on farms. It warned that anyone found guilty of such crimes will face severe punishment under the law.
Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged the public to be alert and report suspicious activities. He also stressed the need for community members to “say no to r@p€” and work together to protect vulnerable people.
