Police Begin Forensic Probe into Ondo Ex-Governorship’s death
Lagos police launch forensic probe into ex-Ondo governorship candidate Bamidele Akingboye’s death after viral photo.
Detectives secure his home and begin evidence collection to determine possible foul play.
The Lagos State Police Command has ordered a forensic inquiry into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, after an online photo of his body sparked speculation about possible foul play.

The photograph, which appeared on social media, appeared to show injuries to his head and cast doubt on initial claims that he died peacefully at his Victoria Garden City home in Lagos on Wednesday.
Human rights groups have urged the authorities to conduct a transparent and credible investigation to determine the true circumstances of his death.
Confirming the move in a post on its official X handle on Sunday, the Command said Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to discreetly handle the case. Detectives backed by a crime-scene investigation team have already visited the residence where the politician’s body was found, securing the area and beginning evidence collection using specialized tools.
Akingboye, who was the Social Democratic Party candidate in the November 2024 Ondo governorship election, lost to incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress.
