Activist Deji Adeyanju Raises Alarm Over Nigerians Detained in Benin Republic
Deji Adeyanju has raised alarm over Nigerians allegedly held without fair trials in Benin Republic.
He urged the government to investigate harsh prison conditions and protect citizens’ rights.
Human rights advocate and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has drawn attention to what he described as the “dire” conditions faced by Nigerian nationals held in the Republic of Benin.

Adeyanju revealed that he and his team had recently petitioned the Nigerian Senate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and Nigeria’s Embassy in Cotonou over the plight of citizens detained at the “civil de Adjagbo” prison in Abomey-Calavi.
According to him, several Nigerians are reportedly being held without fair trials or basic legal safeguards. He further alleged that one detainee, identified as Salami Deyomi, had died in custody, while many others continue to endure harsh and degrading conditions.
Adeyanju urged the Nigerian government to launch an urgent investigation into the matter, stressing that the rights and dignity of all individuals must be protected and respected.
