NYSC Moves Kwara Orientation Camp to Ilorin Over Security Concerns

NYSC relocates Kwara orientation camp from Yikpata to Ilorin Polytechnic over rising insecurity concerns.

Officials assure parents of tight security as corps members prepare to begin the three-week exercise.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shifted its Kwara State orientation camp from Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area to the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following heightened insecurity in the region.

Kwara State NYSC Coordinator, Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, confirmed the move in Ilorin on Thursday, explaining that the state government approved the temporary relocation after concerns were raised about the safety of corps members.

According to him, all necessary arrangements have been made to host the orientation program at the new venue. He said security operatives, including soldiers and other agencies, would be stationed at the facility to ensure full protection of participants throughout the three-week exercise.

Onifade stated that corps members are expected to begin reporting between September 24 and October 14, while officials from the NYSC headquarters would visit to inspect the temporary site before activities commence.

The relocation comes amid repeated cases of violence in Kwara North, especially Edu and Patigi LGAs, where bandit attacks have left scores of residents dead, kidnapped, or displaced in recent months. In August, soldiers at the Yikpata camp reportedly restricted corps members from leaving the premises after suspicious movements were detected nearby, sparking fresh fears among participants and their families.

He expressed gratitude to the federal and state governments for their support and urged parents to remain calm, assuring that the NYSC would deliver a secure and successful orientation exercise in the state.
