Lagos Police Bust Syndicate Behind Exotic Vehicle Vandalism
Lagos Police arrest suspected gang leader accused of posing as security staff to infiltrate estates.
The suspect allegedly led a group that stole valuable car parts from residents’ vehicles.
Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 46-year-old Jude Onouha, alleged leader of a gang that infiltrated residential estates by posing as security operatives.

According to police investigations, the syndicate dressed in counterfeit security uniforms and carried a modified Mercedes-Benz car jack designed to resemble a gun. This deception allegedly enabled them to convince estate guards they were on official duty. Once admitted, they targeted high-value cars, including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz and other SUVs, removing costly parts such as vehicle brainboxes, mirrors, wiring systems and control modules.
Police said Onouha is now cooperating with investigators, who have intensified efforts to track down the remaining gang members. Items recovered include the altered car jack and a face cap labelled “Special Force,” which the suspect reportedly used to strengthen his disguise.

Authorities have urged residents and estate managers to remain cautious when approached by people claiming to be from security agencies. They advised that any such visits should be confirmed with the local Divisional Police Officer before access is granted, and suspicious individuals should be reported immediately to the nearest station.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also encouraged residents to use the Command’s emergency phone lines 08063299264, 09053872208 and 08087332678 to request rapid intervention. He stressed that community vigilance and close cooperation with the police remain vital to preventing similar crimes.
