Ballon d’Or 2025: PSG Players Could Miss Awards Night

PSG face missing the Ballon d’Or ceremony after their clash with Marseille was moved to Monday night.

Severe weather forced the reschedule, creating a clash with football’s biggest awards event in Paris.

Paris Saint-Germain risk missing a major presence at this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony after organizers of Le Classique confirmed the clash with Olympique de Marseille has been moved to Monday night due to severe weather warnings in southern France.

The rescheduling means the match will now coincide with football’s most glamorous night at Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet, where several PSG players are among the nominees.

The Bouches-du-Rhône region has been placed under an orange weather alert for torrential rain, flooding, and thunderstorms, prompting local authorities to postpone the game originally set for Sunday.

At the centre of the scheduling headache is Ousmane Dembélé, widely tipped as a frontrunner for the 2025 Ballon d’Or after inspiring PSG to a Champions League triumph in May and a UEFA Super Cup victory in August.

PSG boasts a record nine other nominees across categories, making them the most represented club on the shortlist. But with kick-off at the Vélodrome clashing with the ceremony, most of the squad may be forced to prioritize club duty over personal accolades.

Head coach Luis Enrique will already be without Dembélé and teenage prodigy Désiré Doué, both sidelined by injury. Their absence from the squad could potentially allow them to attend the gala. For the rest of PSG’s nominees, however, participation remains in serious doubt.
