Anambra Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Killing in Family Land Dispute
Anambra police arrested Okwuchukwu Ezimuo for allegedly killing his relative during a family land dispute.
Authorities said the fatal confrontation happened in Awka-Etiti, prompting a deeper investigation by state detectives.
Police in Anambra State have taken into custody a 45-year-old man, Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, accused of fatally attacking his relative during a dispute over family land in Umunocha village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, by the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was carried out by officers from the Nnobi Police Divisional Headquarters.
Initial findings indicate that on the evening of September 22, 2025, a quarrel broke out between Ezimuo and his 65-year-old relative, Joseph Dike. During the altercation, Dike reportedly collapsed after being struck in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Investigators have since visited the crime scene, collected evidence, and documented it with photographs. The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged the public to embrace dialogue and non-violent methods in resolving disputes. He also ordered that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a more detailed probe to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
