“I Respect Him so Much”, Olamide Opens Up on Discovering Asake’s Talent
Olamide praised Asake as an extraordinary talent whose rise surpassed his expectations in Nigerian music.
He credited Asake’s authenticity and relentless work ethic for shaping his remarkable journey to stardom.
Popular Nigerian rapper Olamide has opened up about his former signee, Asake, describing him as a rare talent whose rise exceeded even his own expectations.

Asake first gained attention in 2020 with his breakout hit “Lady” and officially joined Olamide’s YBNL Nation in February 2022. In 2025, he parted ways with the label to establish his own imprint, Giran Republic.
In a recent interview, Olamide revealed that he recognized Asake’s exceptional talent right from their first encounter. He revealed that he had never heard anything close to Asake’s sound before, praising his authenticity and craftsmanship.
The 36-year-old rapper also highlighted Asake’s work ethic as a major reason he signed him. According to Olamide, Asake was not someone who needed to be convinced to put in effort because he was already doing so.
“That is why I respect him so much. And I thought it would be a nice thing for us to partner,” Olamide said, adding that he tries not to pressure his artists but encourages them to make beautiful music and let it find its time to shine.
He also pointed out that some of his own songs from 10 years ago didn’t pop at first but eventually gained recognition, which is why he believes in giving music time to grow.
